New Member Application

At Richmond Heritage, we want to make it quick and simple for you to open an account. But in an age of identity theft and heightened national security, we're required to take steps to confirm the identity of each potential customer. So, we'll ask you make sure that you have, at minimum, the following documents:

  • A Drivers License, State Issued Identification, US Armed Forces ID, or US Passport.
  • A Social Security Card, Work Photo ID, or Similar Document

Section 326 of the USA PATRIOT ACT requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens an account or changes an existing account. This federal requirement applies to all new customers and current customers. This information is used to assist the United States government in the fight against the funding of terrorism and money-laundering activities. What this means to you: when you open an account or change an existing account, we will ask each person for their name, physical address, mailing address, date of birth, and other information that will allow us to identify them. We will ask to see each person’s driver’s license and other identifying documents and copy or record information from each of them.

All of the terms, conditions, form of account selection and other information indicated here apply to all of the account listed unless the Credit Union is notified in writing of a change. The account number for each of the account listed consists of the suffix added to the end of the member number listed in the "MEMBER APPLICATION AND OWNERSHIP INFORMATION" section. if this applies to more than one account of the same type, more then one suffix will be listed for that account type.

Applying is Fast and Easy

  • Individual Primary Account Holder: This is your traditional personal account with just a single account holder.
  • Joint Account with Right of Survivorship: On the Death of an owner of the Account, The deceased owner's interest in the account passes to the surviving Owner(s) of the Account. For example, if you and your spouse share an account, upon death the account is made available to the surviving shared account holder without delays common in the will or estate process.
  • Joint Account without Right of Survivorship: On the Death of an Owner of the Account, The deceased owner's interest in the account passes as a part of The owner's estate by will, trust or intestacy. For example, if you and your spouse share an account, upon death the account is not made available to the surviving shared account holder and instead becomes part of the estate.
  • Association Managed Account: This account is for businesses or associations who manage or monitor accounts for sponsored individuals.
  • Custodial Account For Minors: The Uniform Transfers to Minors Act (UTMA) allows an adult to transfer assets to a minor by opening a custodial account for them. This type of account is managed by an adult until the minor reaches a certain age, usually 18 or 21.

Please be aware that the Paper Statement option has a quarterly cost of $5.00, or $20.00 per year. The $5.00 charge would be auto-debited on a quarterly basis after your initial payment. You may opt-out of paper statements at any time.

An individual with an account or certificate at Richmond Heritage Federal Credit Union can designate a beneficiary who will inherit any money in the account after their death without the necessity of waiting for Probate. This can often be beneficial as it allows an almost seamless access to assets within your account at a time most critical. Even if you have a will and a life insurance policy in place, there is no guarantee a quick payout to handle matters such as burial expense, funeral expense, or due debt. This account feature is called a payable on death (POD) account. A bank account with a named beneficiary is called a payable on death (POD) account. People who opt for POD accounts do so to keep their money out of probate court in the event that they pass away. Normally, upon the death of the account owner, the beneficiary would be able to gain control of the account simply by presenting a certified death certificate of the owner, this, however can vary per account. Upon verification by Credit Union officials, the monies within the POD account are made available to the beneficiary names specified by the account owner in the beneficiary designation form on file. Richmond Heritage Federal Credit Union makes no representation that designating your account as a payable on death account is advisable. You should consult with any attorney or other qualified estate planning professional before designating your account as a payable on death account.

A Payable on Death (POD) account is an informal revocable trust account owned by one or more people expressing the intent that upon the death of the owner(s), the deposited funds will pass to one or more named beneficiaries. A revocable trust account can be revoked, terminated, or amended at the discretion of the owner(s). Upon the death of the sole account owner on an individual account, or the last account owner on a joint account: A. Any funds remaining in the account referenced above belong to the POD Beneficiary or Beneficiaries, if both surviving, or to the survivor of them if one or more dies before the death of the sole Account Owner or the last surviving Account Owner; B. If two or more POD Beneficiaries survive, any funds remaining on deposit belong to them in equal shares, subject to applicable law; and C. If two or more POD Beneficiaries survive, there is no right of survivorship in the event of death of a POD Beneficiary. Payment of the funds to any POD Beneficiary is subject to The Credit Union's right to charge the account for any amount the deceased Account Owner(s) or POD Beneficiary owes the Bank. The Credit Union may require the submission of specific legal documents (such as a death certificate and/or POD Beneficiary ID information) prior to the release of funds in the account. Until final payment is made to the POD Beneficiary or Beneficiaries, the Credit Union shall continue to operate the account according to the terms of the applicable Account Agreement and disclosures, and these POD Designation Terms and Conditions. The terms of the account may not be altered by Will or other testamentary instrument. Certain state law restrictions apply to payable on death accounts.
